To run a simulation, first select the necessary inputs:
- Caliber: Choose the desired caliber first. The diameter of the chosen caliber will determine the suitable bullets. This is why you have to choose the caliber first. Once selected, the case capacity, case length, and cartridge length will be set with the caliber's default values that can be overwritten with your specific specifications.
- Bullet Brand: We have over 4000 bullets in our database. To narrow down the suitable bullets, choose the bullet brand next. You will see an indication of how many suitable bullets we have for the selected caliber and each bullet brand in our database.
- Bullet: Choose the bullet next. The calculator will automatically populate the bullet length and ballistic coefficient (if available) for further calculations.
- Powder Brand: Select the powder brand next to narrow down the list of powders.
- Powder: Choose the desired powder.
-
Additional Parameters: Check the default values set by the system (e.g., bullet length, case capacity, case length, cartridge length) and - importantly - adjust to your own specifications. The barrel length is chosen from your default settings.
- see here how to measure case capacity
- see here how we define barrel length - Enter the charge weight.
After you have entered and checked all input parameters, click the Calculate Ballistics button. The calculator will then assess if there is a suitable result and display all statistics and graphs, particularly the maximum pressure, muzzle velocity, and powder conversion.
Each calculation will automatically be saved in the History. A calculation can further be saved in the Diary.
Advanced features:
- You can create bookmarks for bullets, powders, and calibers, and limit the dropdown values to them.
- You can create weapons and use them to set the caliber, barrel length, and sight height, and to associate a load/calculation with a weapon
-
Understand how to read the calculation results.
